Masculine Cards the bane of my llife

Not sure if others also have difficulty making a card for a young male adult, specially if he is your daughter's boyfriend. She asked me to make him a card but of course she had to vet it first before it could go to him. Once again I used a KennyK image which I thought would be perfect for him as he is a C&W music fan.

Card with a gift for a Crafty Friend

I have just finished this card with a little section to add a little gift. This type of card was very popular a few years ago. I have used a KennyK digi image, Spellbinders dies for the Snowflake and the tag. The little containers are filled with glitter and flocking.

Not a Christmas card for a change

This weeks post is just a fun card with no Christmassy feel to it. I decided to go bright and cheery before the dreary winter weather sets in. I have used "All That" digital stamp from Kenny K. Used my ProMarkers and sentiment stamp from Crafter's Companion Frou Frou Never Too Early stamp set. Entering this in KennyK Pumps and Pearls challenge.

Digital stamping meets Old School Parchment

I haven't made a parchment card in ages, so decided to combine one of my favourite digital stamps (Kenny K of course) with old school parchment work. By old school I mean placing the parchment over the paper pattern with tape and perforating through the parchment and the paper just the way I was first taught, before all the grids became fashionable. I must admit I cheated a bit by printing the image onto the parchment but that is because I don't think my tracing skills would do the image justice. I used Faber Castell Polychromos pencils to colour from the back and front. The cut work border was from an old Pergamano Christmas pattern C18. The snowflake punches are from various punches and dies I have.

Happy Card making Day

A very productive day for me. I have managed to get 8 Christmas cards done. Hubby left me to my card making while he did the normal Saturday chores ha ha.
I won't bore you with all the cards. Three of them have the same main image just used differently. The one I want to share is a House Mouse stamp which I have coloured with ProMarkers (of course) and will enter it into the Passion for ProMarkers Challenge 218 - Lots of legs

My Version of Shabby Chic

What is Vintage Shabby Chic? Whimsey Stamps blog is having a Vintage Shabby Chic challenge so having done a quick Google search, a Pinterest search, this is what I came up with.
I have used a Sara Kay Wedding couple stamp, which I stamped onto parchment paper.I coloured the hair, flowers and his suit with pencils and markers, her dressed I embossed lightly from the back. Using a Pergamano grid I made a frame with cut work and embossing. I adhered the parchment to a piece of pastel rainbow paper with tiny brads. I then set about preparing the gate fold card, using paper flowers and doilies from my stash. Inside I used a spellbinders die cut.
Well I hope you like my interpretation of  Vintage shabby Chic.

Birthday card for Hubby

My DH's birthday is on Tuesday so I thought I better get a card done. What sort of card does one make for the man in your life? Do we go romantic, sporty, boring or just quirky? I opted for quirky by way of a change. Found this great stamp at Michael's on sale so of course I bought it not knowing how I would use it, I am sure we have all done that. I played around with the stamp on some scrap to see what it looked like, went into my PSP programme for the sentiment and am quite pleased with the result. I do hope he likes it, but then again he is my hubby and always likes the cards I make lol.

Card for fall

I have tried something  a little different with this card, well for me anyway lol.
I tend to keep my cards pretty conservative and simple. The image is a favourite from KennyK. I coloured the image  with ProMarkers using my favourites fall colours. The paper I used this time is the Bleed-proof Marker paper from Letraset. The vote is still out on this paper. During the year I tend to make up flowers from the scrap paper I always have after a busy card making session. One tends to make these and then they sit in a container just waiting to be used. Today I decided to try and use up some of the flowers and foliage. I have tried to make the card a little bit shabby chic ha ha. Hope you like my attempt.
I am entering this card in the KennyK Colours of Fall Challenge.

What to share today?

I have been so busy making cards this past week I am spoilt for choice on what to share with you today. I am certain there a lots of bloggers that look for inspiration on Pinterest and I am one of them. I am always amazed at all the different ways people find to create beautiful cards. I have cased quite a few ideas from Pinterest, so I think I will share a couple with you today. When I first saw the original version of this card I thought "how did they do that"? Well I never found out so decided to try and make it myself. I cut a template of the Spellbinders 2011 Heirloom Ornament die on copy paper and placed it over my card stock with removable double sided tape. I then took My Sentiments Exactly! V159 rubber stamp and stamped it over my template. I  sprayed glitter spray over the template and the aperture and  removed it from the card stock,  threw some extra fine glitter over the stamped image to give it some extra sparkle. I thought it came out really well. I would use a different greeting sentiment next time.
The other card I cased was also one with an ornament. I used a Memory Box ornament and paper from my stash. The embossing is from the Holly Branch Cuttlebug folder.
I would like to say a big thank you to all those very talented crafters who share their work on the web and inspire us.

Vellum Christmas Tree Tutorial

I was asked by my Facebook group to do a tutorial on how I made my Vellum Christmas tree. This is my first time doing a tutorial so I do hope it all makes sense to you.
I have used the Grand Calibur scalloped dies #6 and #3 and the classic Scalloped dies #6, #4 and #3. There are 5 layers to the tree.
I have not done the traditional parchment technique so this is the easy way to make the tree.
Picture 1 laying out the dies. I always include card stock when I cut Vellum or translucent Parchment paper. I find it stops the vellum from tearing or cracking.
Picture 2 cutting the dies, this is pretty straight forward, obviously you need a Grand Calibur for the # 6 GC Scalloped circle, but the CB can be used for the other sizes
Picture 3 tracing the lines from the template; remove the vellum from the green card. I have left it on so you can see more clearly. Normally I would use a white pencil crayon to trace with but here I have used a normal pencil which I will erase at the end. The solid line are embossed/scored from the back and the dotted lines from the front to make mountain and valley folds.

Picture 4 shows the perforating of the centre circles. I use a 2 or 3 needle perforating parchment tool from Parchcraft Australia. You can use punch or die if you have one that fits the circle.
Picture 5 colour is added to the back of the vellum. I have used a ProMarker you can use oil pastels or chalks. The ProMarkers do need to be blended with a cotton bud to get a smooth finish. Do this to all the layers between the centre and the scallops.

Picture 6 using a small ball scoring tool score your lines and scallops.  Solid lines and scallops from the back and dotted lines from the front. Erase all pencil lines.

Picture 7 now for the fun part; decorate each layer using stickers, stencils, stamps or punches.
Stamping on Vellum or translucent parchment can be done with Staz-On or Brilliance, heat embossing helps to speed up the drying time. I have stamped, dry embossed, used a punch and some peel-offs just to show the different ways to decorate. I am sure you can think of other ways.

Picture 8 I have removed all the centres you can cut them with scissors, a craft knife or a punch. Fold all the mountain folds then turn the layer over and fold the valley folds. It is a concertina shape.

Picture 8 is the centre cone I have used some green paper for this.

Picture 9 the paper is rolled to form a cone and using tape or adhesive stick the edges together. The bottom layer should fit on it fairly snugly so don’t roll it to tight.

Add all the layers onto the tree and finish off with a star or your own choice of a tree topper. I have used a Sizzix snowflake die cut.
Et Voila your Christmas tree is finished.

Hope this tutorial has been helpful. Any questions please ask
Thanks
Adie

Getting ahead of the season

Making Christmas cards in a heat wave. I must admit I prefer the winter time as I seem to have lots more energy, so I suppose I should then make all my Christmas cards then. I seem to have started earlier this year than I usually do and to date have made about 30 of the 120 cards I make every year. don't panic I am not going to post those all on here today. I never have a theme though every year I say I will try to stick to theme, but, honestly I get bored making more than 2 cards the same, so each one is different. I have tried to fish out stamps I haven't used in a while so here are a couple of cards from my old rubber stamps.
The rubber stamp is an old PSX stamp which I have coloured using Aqua-Markers.
The die cut is from Spellbinders Romantic Rectangles.

This second card is a rubber stamp from Stamps Happen Inc called the Snow Animals. The background is stamped with the Jumbo Snowflakes from Stampendous. Die cut is Labels Four from Spellbinders. The image is coloured with  Letraset ProMarkers.
I do hope these have given you some inspiration to take out those old rubber stamps and give them some new life

I made an easel style card and coloured the image twice to layer it, die-cut some clock dies, foiled sections on the backing paper. Oh well I tried ha ha. Here is the finished project.

Thank you very much

Had some thank you cards to do. I won't post them all. The first one can also be used as a male card. I have used the Fiskars texture plate for the dark brown layer and the Spellbinders seashell impressabilities for the gold shimmer layer.

This next one is a very simple card with a stamped background, an embossed layer and a lightly stamped die-cut. The flowers were punched and coloured with ProMarkers and the foliage from Spellbinders.
The last one I saw on Pinterest and decided to try it with the dies I have.
The main die is from Spellbinders Romantic Rectangles and the flower is from Marianne Designs

Mixing diecuts

This was a trial and error card for me. I have used 3 different brand of die cuts. The Rose borders and the male and female silhouettes are from  Marianne designs, the Romantic rectangle and leaves  are from Spellbinders and the frame is from Memory Box. The rose is made up from the McGill Flowers -Petite Petals punch. They were all cut from Recollections Shimmer Cardstock paper. The silhouettes were cut from a fairly thick opaque vellum.

I want a pretty card...Mom

My youngest daughter asked me to make a birthday card for her boyfriend's mother. I took her to my stash of cards and said choose one. She spent some time looking through the cards and turned to me and said they are all lovely mom, but I want a pretty card. Needless to say I was a bit confused, but then realised to her a pretty card was a Parchment one. So here it is. The designer of this card is a very talented lady called Mary Kerr. The pattern was published in the March 2012 issue of Parchment Craft magazine. I did change the centre bit, so I hope you don't mind Mary.
I have not met the mom yet but I hope she likes her "pretty card"

Stamped Parchment Card

Apologies for being missing in action recently. We have just been a bit inundated with life over here.
I have however managed to make a few parchment cards. They are both pretty simple cards and I have used my ProMarkers to colour them.
The butterfly has been traced with a white pencil and embossed on the PCA lace template. I have coloured the back lightly with ProMarkers and added some gems.

The rose is a stained glass style stamp.Embossed on the back and then coloured, some grid and cut work finished it off.

Faux Parchment my newest creations

Well I think I am officially hooked on embossing folder parchment work. I know it is not anything like the real thing but for quick cards that look like they have taken a long time to do, I can deal with that.
It is important to use the genuine parchment paper to avoid the paper cracking and tearing when you re work it. I also find if I emboss a piece of card stock as well as the parchment it protects the parchment a little more.
The first on I am going to show you was just re-embossed on certain areas to whiten up the pattern. I then used Tim Holz  Distress Ink Broken China and Victorian Velvet on the back of the design. The folder is Anna Griffin Foulard.

The second folder is a Darice folder Butterflies in the corner
There was no need to re-emboss any portion of this folder once I had put it thru the Grand Calibur. I did some lace work and embossing on the butterflies and used my Wink of Stella brush from Zig to add a little sparkle to the dots and the punched butterfly. I stamped a sentiment from Justrite Stampers added a bow and some gems.

Enjoy
